Water Damage in Arlington: The Storm Everyone Remembers
Ask anyone who lived here on July 8, 2019. Arlington County described it as a month's worth of rain in approximately one hour, with over 600 calls for service. WTOP later reported that 1,029 people filed post-storm damage claims.
It did not only hit the low spots on the map. Arlington Magazine reported in 2020 that Westover, where homes flooded, is classed as an area of minimal flood hazard. One resident called it a wall of water.
The County has been building since. Its Flood Resilient Arlington program is supported by a stormwater utility fee that first appeared on bills in May 2024. Under the field at Cardinal Elementary in Westover, a completed vault is designed to hold just over 4 million gallons of stormwater.
For your own house, the County's advice includes a simple one: if your home needs a sump pump, get a battery backup in case the power goes out. And if water does get in, from a storm or a pipe, the sooner it's handled, the better!

Water Damage Restoration Questions, Answered
How Fast Does This Need to Happen?
Quickly. The EPA recommends drying water-damaged areas within 24–48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Will Insurance Cover It?
Coverage depends on your policy and what caused the damage. We can bill your insurance company directly and help you understand the process.
Should I Call My Insurance Company or You First?
Call us to stop further damage, and call your insurance company to open a claim. Doing both early helps.
Can We Stay in the House?
Usually, yes. We'll talk through what makes sense based on where the water went.
Will You Have to Tear Out Walls or Floors?
Only what can't be dried or saved. We'll explain what needs to go and why before anything is removed.
How Will I Know It's Really Dry?
Dry to the touch isn't the same as dry inside the structure. We confirm the structure itself is dry — not just the surface — before anything is closed up, and we keep you informed along the way.
