Water Damage in McLean: Pimmit Run, Dead Run and a Lot of Plumbing
McLean took the hardest rain in Fairfax County on July 8, 2019. The National Weather Service's flood summary lists 4.17 inches in 24 hours at McLean, the highest Fairfax total on its list. Tysons Reporter reported two flooded hallways, athletic locker rooms and coaches' offices at McLean High School.
Kirby Road, which runs along Little Pimmit Run and across Pimmit Run, washed out. Connection Newspapers reported that it reopened on December 11, 2019, five months later, under a $2.1 million emergency contract.
Streams are only one source. In October 2023, DC News Now reported that a water main break collapsed part of Kirby Road. And inside a large home there is simply more plumbing: more bathrooms, more supply lines, more equipment. A leak on an upper floor can travel through two levels before anyone notices.
Fairfax County is still at work on the streams. Its project page for Dead Run describes about 5,600 linear feet of restoration between Churchill Road and Georgetown Pike, with design complete. For your own home, the rule is simpler: get it dry quickly, and call first!
Who Do I Call for a Water Main Break or Sewer Backup in McLean?
Fairfax Water's emergency line for main breaks is 703-698-5613. Fairfax County lists 703-323-1211, 24 hours, for sewer emergencies. Then call us and tell us what happened.
Is the Estimate Free?
Yes! Water damage estimates are free!
The Leak Was on the Second Floor. How Far Could the Water Have Gone?
Further than it looks. Water follows framing and ductwork down through the house. We check that it's dry before things are closed up.
Serving McLean ZIP codes 22101 and 22102.

Water Damage Restoration Questions, Answered
How Fast Does This Need to Happen?
Quickly. The EPA recommends drying water-damaged areas within 24–48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Will Insurance Cover It?
Coverage depends on your policy and what caused the damage. We can bill your insurance company directly and help you understand the process.
Should I Call My Insurance Company or You First?
Call us to stop further damage, and call your insurance company to open a claim. Doing both early helps.
Can We Stay in the House?
Usually, yes. We'll talk through what makes sense based on where the water went.
Will You Have to Tear Out Walls or Floors?
Only what can't be dried or saved. We'll explain what needs to go and why before anything is removed.
How Will I Know It's Really Dry?
Dry to the touch isn't the same as dry inside the structure. We confirm the structure itself is dry — not just the surface — before anything is closed up, and we keep you informed along the way.
