A Mold or Water Damage Inspection for Springfield Homes

Springfield went up fast. According to a Connection Newspapers history, developer Edward Carr's first houses were finished in 1952, and 2,000 were completed by 1955. Fairfax County Public Schools recalls renting five new Carr houses on Axton and Kempsville Streets as classrooms in 1956 and 1957.

The building continued for decades. Kings Park began in 1960, and the 423 homes of West Springfield Village were built in 1966. That means most Springfield houses have now had 55 to 70 years of roofs, plumbing repairs and remodeling.

The Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District makes a point worth knowing: most wet basements are a result of water problems outside of the house. So a careful look pays attention to what you tell us about the yard and the gutters as well as what we see indoors.

We look first at the areas you are concerned about, then at the places where homes most commonly have problems. You hear where the mold is and its likely sources, often more than one!

Do I Need an Inspection If the Mold Is Right in Front of Me?

Not necessarily. When the cause is known or tied to a specific event, and the area affected is clearly defined, testing may not be needed. Testing after remediation could, and often should, be performed. Testing is also advisable when something seems wrong with your environment and you want to quantify the risk or find where the problem is.
