A Mold or Water Damage Inspection for Fairfax Homes
According to the City of Fairfax Comprehensive Plan, most neighborhoods in the City were established in the 1950s and 1960s, and more than 5,600 structures in the City are 50 years of age or older. A home that age has usually been through several owners, several renovations and more than a few plumbing repairs.
That history is why a problem is not always where you first notice it. A musty smell on the lower level, a stain that returns after it is painted, or a room that never quite feels right are the reasons Fairfax homeowners most often give us when they call.
Fairfax Villa, just outside the city line, is a good example of the local housing. Its community association describes homes built from 1960 through 1965 as ramblers, split-foyers and split-levels. In homes like those, the lowest level sits partly below the ground.
Fairfax County's Health Department states that it does not perform indoor air testing or remediation for mold, so homeowners are left to find qualified help on their own. That is where we come in! We look first at the areas you are concerned about, then at the places where homes most commonly have problems. You hear where the mold is and its likely sources, often more than one.
What Does a Mold Inspection Cost in Fairfax?
A mold or water damage inspection starts at $195. If it's determined that sampling is advisable, our price, including the inspection, would be $495, including the first two air samples or tape lifts, the lab report, and a follow-up phone call. Each additional air or tape lift sample is just $45 each.
Do I Need an Inspection If I Can Already See Mold?
Not necessarily. When the cause is known or tied to a specific event, and the area affected is clearly defined, testing may not be needed. Testing after remediation could, and often should, be performed. Testing is also advisable when something seems wrong with your environment and you want to quantify the risk or find where the problem is.
What Happens After the Inspection?
You hear what we found, where the mold is and its likely sources, often more than one, and what your options are, so you can make an informed decision.
