Every Home Holds a Surprise — So We Always Have a Plan B
Once a home is opened up, there is usually something no one could see from the outside. We plan for that from the start, and when we find it, we do what is best for your home.
Black Mold in Springfield Homes: What You Are Probably Looking At
Start with the name. "Black mold" usually means Stachybotrys chartarum, which the CDC describes as a greenish-black mold. Many molds are dark, though, and they are hard to tell apart by eye.
It matters less than you might think. The CDC says all molds should be treated the same when it comes to removal, and it notes that this particular mold requires constant moisture to grow. So the useful question is what has been wet, and for how long.
In Springfield the answer is usually ordinary. Edward Carr's first houses were finished in 1952, so the oldest ones are past 70. A slow drip inside a wall, a shower that has leaked a little for years, or a lower-level room that takes on dampness each summer are the usual stories.
We protect the people living in the home first. Then you get a careful removal plan and a clear price before work starts!
Do I Have to Test It Before You Remove It?
Often, no. When the cause is known and the area is defined, testing before removal is not necessarily needed, and the EPA says that in most cases sampling is unnecessary if visible mold growth is present. Testing is advisable when you suspect a wider problem and want to quantify the risk or find where it is, and again after remediation.
What Does Black Mold Removal Cost in Springfield?

Black Mold Removal Questions, Answered
Is Black Mold Different from Other Mold?
Many molds look dark, and color alone doesn't tell you what kind it is. For most homes the practical answer is the same whatever the color: it is growing because of moisture, and it should be removed carefully.
Do I Need Testing First?
Not always. If you can see the mold, a free estimate is often the right first step. Testing makes sense when you want to know about the air or about areas you can't see. Mold testing starts at $495, which includes the inspection, the first two samples, the lab report and a follow-up phone call. Each additional air or tape sample is $45.
