A Mold or Water Damage Inspection for Alexandria Homes
Mold is on the City's own list. In April 2025 the Alexandria Health Department announced a Healthy Homes Action Plan, and the first of its strategies is to increase residents' access to resources that help them identify and fix mold.
The City is also clear about what it does not do. Its mold page explains that Code Administration staff do not inspect or test for mold. Homeowners are on their own to find someone qualified.

The City's National Register listings describe Rosemont as mostly built between 1908 and 1930, and Parkfairfax as 285 buildings from 1941 to 1943 holding 1,684 townhouses and flats. Old Town is older by a century or two. Each era hides water in different places.

I Can See the Mold Already. What Then?
It depends. If you are confident of the cause, or it followed a single event such as a leak, and you can define the area affected, testing is not necessarily needed. Post-remediation testing could, and often should, follow the work. If you sense something is wrong with your environment but can't say what or where, testing is advisable to quantify the risk.
