Water Damage in Bethesda: Old Mains and Cold Snaps
Much of the water system that serves Bethesda is old. WSSC Water says approximately 42 percent of its water mains are more than 50 years old. Bethesda Magazine reported in January 2025 that the utility sees nearly 1,800 breaks and leaks in a usual year, about 65 percent of them between November and February.
One of those was close to home. On January 6, 2025, a main broke at 7235 Wisconsin Avenue. Bethesda Magazine reported that the pipe had been installed in 1932, and NBC4 reported that the break left 2 to 3 feet of water in the basement of a nearby home.
Rain does its share. Montgomery County's flood management plan counted 8,900 flooding and drainage calls to 311 between January 2010 and June 2022, and it notes that there is no County-wide assessment of flood risk outside the mapped stream areas.
Whether the water came from the street, the sky or a supply line inside the wall, the answer is the same. The sooner it's handled, the better, so call first!

Water Damage Restoration Questions, Answered
How Fast Does This Need to Happen?
Quickly. The EPA recommends drying water-damaged areas within 24–48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Will Insurance Cover It?
Coverage depends on your policy and what caused the damage. We can bill your insurance company directly and help you understand the process.
Should I Call My Insurance Company or You First?
Call us to stop further damage, and call your insurance company to open a claim. Doing both early helps.
Can We Stay in the House?
Usually, yes. We'll talk through what makes sense based on where the water went.
Will You Have to Tear Out Walls or Floors?
Only what can't be dried or saved. We'll explain what needs to go and why before anything is removed.
How Will I Know It's Really Dry?
Dry to the touch isn't the same as dry inside the structure. We confirm the structure itself is dry — not just the surface — before anything is closed up, and we keep you informed along the way.
